Some installation experiences to share

Hello,

My friends and I use intensively and test various LMSs and provide institutions with reports of our findings. We have been testing FormaLMS for some time now and I would like to share with you some of the initial results concerning setup.

All testers started with version 2.0, and then switched to 2.1. Tests are run on local (UniServer) and online (different free and paid hosts; all shared servers) environments, using PHP 5.6 and ultimately 7.0. The total number of testers is eleven (including me). Except for three of them, all testers are ordinary users; they can use cPanel, PhpMyAdmin, etc. efficiently. They are expected to find solutions themselves if they face problems.

Installation problems, and solutions suggested:
Step 2
In PHP, the fileinfo extension MUST be activated. Otherwise, “mime type” error message will appear and block installation. (Reported by 5 online testers; solution is suggested in FormaLMS forum)
Step 4
http://..../ should be http://.... (without the trailing slash). Otherwise, even though all database details are correct, you will get stuck on this page. (Reported by 2 localhost testers; solution found by trial-and-error)
Step 7
“The installer was unable to save the config.php file, download it and overwrite it online.” This message is (1) wrong because there is not an already existing config file to overwrite, and (2) incomplete, because it is not clear WHERE the file will be placed. (2 testers and I reported the "overwrite" issue, 1 online tester had doubts about the location but "guessed" it to be the root folder).

I will submit in this forum some other problems we have faced and our "none so expert" suggestions once we complete our assessment and submit our report by the end of July.

Best regards

P.S. It is not my intention to find new clients here, because we do not need any for the next several years.
